THE LANDSCAPE
Appleview's goal is to create a landscape that accurately reflects the surrounding region. It is our intent to mirror through landscaping the natural surroundings of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. When standing on the banks of our peninsula, you are surrounded by the west prong of the Little Pigeon River and from our open areas you will be nurtured by East Tennessee's beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We intend to do this by creating a unique set of gardens that will enhance our natural settings.
The Appleview Riverwalk consists of a quarter-mile trail surrounded by native flowers such as rhododendron, New Guinea impatiens, love-in-a-mist, hostas, ferns, jonquil, daisies, azaleas, astible, arums and elephant ears. Dogwood, redbud, white pine, blue spruce, cypress, tulip poplar and oak trees can be found throughout the peaceful walk. It is a journey you will want to experience over and over again.
Coming in 2007, located next to our recently completed game room, fitness center and clubhouse, will be the Greenhouses of Appleview River Resort. Here we will grow perennials and annuals for our floral gardens, pool side landscaping, and interior houseplants for our owners. Our selections will include tulips, dahlias, daisies, cannas, peonies, foxtail lilies, clematis, sweet autumn clematis, candytuft, gladiolus, irises, phlox, geraniums, marigolds, petunias, sweet william, zinnias and a beautiful array of roses. Seasonal flowers such as winter pansies and poinsettias will grace our gardens and provide floral beauty during every season.
The fountains at Appleview River Resort will mirror the waters around us that make our resort unique. In the winter, these very same fountains and pools will be converted into old-time ice skating rinks. In the spring, summer and fall, the gardens will be full of vibrant colorful plants and trees the very same ones found deep in the untouched Smoky Mountain wilderness.
