August through November are a special time for the Smokies. When the air grows cold and the animals are preparing for winter, it can only be one thing- the arrival of the autumn season in the Smoky Mountains.
Colors are beyond belief at their peak, which typically falls around the beginning of October. This, however, is completely dependent upon Mother Nature and the weather she throws out way. Peak fall foliage can come as early as late September or as late as mid-November.
In addition to the vibrant colors of the changing leaves, autumn is special in the East Tennessee mountains because it marks the annual harvest celebration- a time when pioneers and early settlers were gathering the last of their crops in preparation for a long winter ahead. Octoberfest celebrations are common, as well as specialty celebrations at area attractions like Dollywood, the Applebarn, and others.
So go ahead- plan your vacation at Appleview Resort this autumn and enjoy the wonderful splendor of a true mountain harvestfest!
